Art Week, a festival involving Prague’s premier art galleries and institutions, is taking place in Prague from 22 to 28 April. PPF Art is the general partner to the event.

The festival explores various aspects of the art world in terms of time, theme and form. The programme includes events focusing on ancient art and antiques, modern art and the most contemporary art forms. Panels, lectures and workshops will focus on art collecting and restoring, exhibit production and art markets.

Art Week is hoping to draw attention to a wide range of accompanying events that museums and galleries are organising for their visitors. The motto of this year’s edition is “Noble Pleasures”. The phrase is taken from a petition whereby, one hundred years ago, the culturally minded public protested against the Art Gallery of the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art being evicted from the Rudolfinum building and the premises being taken up by the House of Deputies: “By expelling the Society’s collection, (...) the Czech general public would lose the opportunity to use it for the purposes of education, science and even just noble pleasures for at least a decade. Indeed, it is a matter of considering the priorities – whether, in an era of general materialism and the pursuit of pleasure offered by cinemas, comic opera and even lesser art forms, one of the noblest opportunities for fostering aesthetics and culturing characters should be deprived of its influence for such a long time.”

The festival is organised by the Art Antiques magazine and PPF Art is its general partner.
